Child Health Specialist, University of Indonesia, Saleha Sungkar, said the worms are commonly encountered diseases in tropical regions including Indonesia, were able to degrade the quality of intelligence, if not immediately dealt with seriously.

"The threat of wormy disease in future generations need to be taken seriously, consistently and continuously for the worms cause child malnutrition, anemia and decreased their intelligence," Saleha said here on Monday.

According to Saleha in tropical areas like Indonesia intestinal worms are often found are roundworms (Ascaris lumbricoides), whip worm (Trichuris Trichiuria) and hookworm (Necator americanus and Ancylostoma duodenale).

"The worm causes diarrhea, absorb nutrients, vitamins, and the child's blood and can cause intestinal bleeding so that children will experience physical barriers to development and intelligence," said Saleha.

Therefore, according to him, control of worms is the most effective strategy to improve the quality of human resources in developing countries like Indonesia to start to increase public knowledge about the disease.
